Conifer Thinning

First and subsequent forestry thinning

As young trees grow, they begin to compete with each other for soil nutrients, light and moisture. Thinning is the removal of trees at intervals over the rotation of the forest crop. This concentrates volume growth on the remaining better spaced, better quality stems.

Thinning increases the overall potential timber revenue by increasing the volume of sawlog produced as well as providing an interim income for the owner.

Each plantation will present different challenges and rewards. Forest and tree services offer harvesting contract's tailored to suit the site and landowner’s objectives.

We will be able to carry out thinning control and plan for the future management of the crop.
